The land of many passes - Ladakh

Here are some pictures from Ladakh.  Ladakh is in Kashmir in northern India, but culturally and geographically couldn't be any different.  Its often known as 'Little Tibet' as the Tibetan culture is very strong here.  Ladakh also translates as the 'Land of Many Passes' as it is located right in the Indian Himalaya's and has some of the highest roads in the world.  Its a timeless breathtaking place with beautifully simple people.  After my few months here I feel the Ladakhi's can definitely teach us how to live in a more peaceful, spiritual, united, and environmentally friendly world. They are some of the warmest people I've ever met.  The modern 21st century has slowly crept into Ladakh bringing its ugly side with it.  More pollution, psychological diseases such as depression which before were never even heard of, unemployment, and all the rest.  I know that these changes are inevitable, but I just hope they can keep their beautiful culture and strong very self sufficient communities going.  I know that as we continue to destroy our planet in the future we may have to look at the way in which people such as the Ladakhi's live to save it.
